LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT
FINDING YOUR SOUL MATE

It's the most important question in everyone's life. "Is this the right person for me?"  Get it right and you can look forward to a life of happiness. Get it wrong and your world could fall apart. Too many people make hasty or ill advised decisions about relationships and marriage. They visit all the free dating websites and hope to find love at the first site they visit!

Even the professional match makers can get it badly wrong. For example, fun loving Florence of Surrey UK- 'with eyes of blue, likes a social drink and music' - sounded like the perfect match for 23-year-old Andrew Stauton. He had joined a dating agency for £30, but Florence turned out to be a 74-year-old pensioner. Mr Stauton, a salesman of Weston-Super-Mare UK, got his money back.

HAS YOUR TRUE LOVE BEEN REVEALED IN A DREAM?

Perhaps dreams can give us a clue to who is our soul mate? After a consultation my client Sarah S told me that for years she had a recurring dream of the same man. "The dream has been with me ever since I was a kid" says Sarah 24 "I knew every detail about him. His name was Paul, he had dark hair and he was in the Navy"

Then Sarah met her dream lover at a club. "Everything about Paul was exactly the same as in my dream" continues Sarah "Yes, he was in the Navy and had dark hair but in the dream he hands me a red rose and a white silk scarf. Paul told me of his recurring dreams. In them he hands a woman, who looks exactly like me, a red rose and silk scarf!"

It would appear that Paul and Sarah had been dreaming of each other from an early age. They plan to marry later this year. Some relationships are meant to be and I'm sure that some people are soul mates. Many people feel that they have a soul mate and that destiny will somehow draw them together. Dreams they believe will help them to identify this soul mate.

WHY DO WE EXPERIENCE LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT? COULD IT BE THAT WE RECOGNISE SOMETHING IN OURSELVES?

The soul mate idea may also be a representation of the unconscious search for personal wholeness. According to Carl Jung better relationships happen between individuals who do not look to others to compensate for their own shortcomings. He explained that this type of person had brought the diverse aspects of their nature together. One of his early theories was that people fall into two broad psychological categories, defined by their basic attitudes towards the world around them. He called these Extroverts and Introverts. Extroverts are people who are motivated via relationships and are inspired by other people. Introverts are more reflective, inward looking and prefer privacy. Most people are a combination of the two characteristics. Neither is better or worse than the other, as they reflect a different approach to our interaction with the outside world. The extrovert attitude flows outward towards the world and is motivated by external objective factors whereas the Introvert energy withdraws from the world and is motivated and orientated by inner, subjective factors.

THE PSYCHOLOGY OF LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT

Jung came to recognise that the terms extrovert and introvert could not explain all of human behaviour and the theory needed modification. He therefore introduced four 'functions' of the psyche, which can themselves be paired into two sets of opposites (thinking/feeling and intuition/sensation). The functions are:

Thinking: This is simply the logical assessment of information.

Sensing: This involves using the senses to tell what the world around you is like.

Feeling: This is the function that uses the emotions to decide whether you like what is going on around you.

Intuition: This is your hunches and gut feeling about what is happening behind the scenes.

The four functions are the means by which we orientate ourselves to experience. In any individual, one function is conscious and its opposite in unconscious. The remaining two are partly conscious. The functions combine with the two attitude types (Extrovert and introvert) to give eight functional types.

WHY WE MAY FEEL DISSATISFIED WITH RELATIONSHIPS

This theory cast new light on familiar psychological problems. For example some seemingly successful people feel unsatisfied in their jobs, believing that there is something missing in their lives. This feeling of something missing may be because such success is often an over-development of the thinking and sensing functions at the cost of those of feeling and intuiting. For some people this results in a mid life crisis because of the imbalance in their psyche. According to Jungian theories the cure for this malady involves the process of individuation- building up those neglected aspects to bring them into balance with the others.

The same applies to relationships. According to Jung people often seek partners onto whom they 'project' the psychological functions that they lack. They look to their partners to make them complete. The snag is that people usually change with time and they find that their partners no longer supply the missing parts of their psyche. The result is that the relationship deteriorates and may result in a divorce. Jung advised that the soundest basis for a long-term relationship is for both people to have found psychological wholeness at the outset.

SO WILL I EVER MEET MY TRUE LOVE?

CRAIG’S COMMENT: You will see that there are many factors involved in the feelings we have when we first feel we have found Love at First Sight. We may sometimes fall in love because we are looking for a feeling of wholeness and seek in another person the security that we have not found within ourselves. As a psychic medium I also believe that some of us have lived together before in past lives and that we recognise one another the moment our eyes meet. It happened in my own life when I met my wife Jane – there was an instant recognition. This free dating website will help you find your true love and maybe you’ll have a feeling of love at first sight when you view the site profiles. We try to encourage people with spiritual values so that we can prepare the ground for true soulmates to find one another. And of course we also offer a superb psychic phone service that will help you to make up your mind if you have met the man/woman or your dreams!!!
